How to choose a safe kids' football club: a parent's checklist

Six questions to ask any club before your child joins.

Do the coaches have a DBS check? Anyone coaching children should hold one. At FC Alpha every coach does.

Is there a named Welfare Officer? A club should tell you who to speak to if you are worried about anything. Ours is Vasile Roșca, the club president.

Is someone trained in first aid at every session? Our coaches hold FA Emergency First Aid in Football.

Does the club have a written safeguarding policy? Ask to read it. Ours is published on our Safeguarding page.

How does the club handle photographs? Good clubs ask for parental consent, never publish a child's full name and let you withdraw consent at any time. That is exactly our policy.

Can you watch? Parents should be welcome on the sideline. At FC Alpha they always are.

If a club can answer all six clearly, you can focus on what matters: whether your child enjoys it. Come and try a free session and see for yourself.
