Map and directionsUnder 6 football in Basildon, ages 4 to 6
The youngest group at FC Alpha Academy. Sessions are short bursts of play where children learn to run with the ball, stop it, turn and share it, with a coach close by the whole time.
- Ages
- 4–6 years
- Match format
- Small games in training, 3v3 and 4v4
What this group works on
- Lots of touches on the ball
- Balance, coordination and running
- Listening, taking turns and having fun in a team
At this age football is a game first. Every child has a ball for most of the session: dribbling through cones, chasing, stopping on a coach's call and scoring into small goals.
Organised matches in England start at Under 7, so our Under 6 children play short, small-sided games inside the session. It is the best preparation for the 5-a-side football that comes next.
Parents stay on the sideline and are welcome to watch.
