The FA recommends 5v5 for Under 7 and Under 8, and our sessions are built around it. Small teams mean every child is involved in every attack and every defence.
Coaches work on one skill at a time, then put it straight into a game. A typical evening is a warm-up, a skill block and small-sided matches to finish.
Goalkeepers start to get their own attention at this age, with handling and positioning practice alongside the outfield work.
